Celebrity Cruises new, still-under-construction Solstice Class ships are going to feature something that I don’t think we’ve ever seen before.
A lawn. For “bocce and cocktails under the stars,” Celebrity says.
Is that cool or odd? I think cool, personally. What do you think?

I think that is insane! The world is starting to grow up and is digging out lawns and replacing them with natural habitats. We have come a long way… perhaps this does not apply to cruises? And they can still choose to use pesticides, much needed energy and water to keep the green lawns green. I dunno but that’s uncool! But I see an opportunity: environmental friendly cruises?
Its very cool. Bocce is making a huge comeback with younger generations. Seriously. And what’s better than a cocktail under the stars, really?
Love the idea about the “enviro” cruise! Maybe a service to buy cruise carbon credits?
Leila: certainly environmental concerns are worth considering here. Thanks for your comment.
Jeffrey: It does have a nice appeal. Great to hear from you.
Derek: http://www.TerraPass.com and http://www.ZeroFootprint.com are two I know offering that today. Thanks for chiming in.
I kind of dig the idea of the lawn…
What’s getting a big WTF? from me though is the Glass blowing demos they’ll have on the boats too… What’s up with that?
Both cool and odd. Cruise ships becoming mobile islands.
Watch out for those wheat grass juicers wanting to get high over anything green! In retrospect, in the Caribbean and Europe there grasses could always be greener…lush lawn would be like snow to filipino, otherwise why’d they even consider the idea… Down-to-earth.
